3.  Why did the Sponsorship increase by 30% in 2022?

With our Charitable Status, we are now able to give out tax receipts allowing us to increase the sponsorship support to better cover the cost of providing education to the 200+ students. For more information on our Financial Picture follow the link to the Financial Page. &  Rising Costs!

4. Can I fully fund my child’s Post Primary School tuition?

Absolutely! Each year the tuition and additional costs are reviewed & budgeted for. This information will be available to all Sponsors yearly. Only funds directly related to education qualify for the tax receipt, the additional supplies needed do not qualify. Go to the Post Primary School page for more information.

5. Where do I find the children who need Sponsors?

Our SACUspirit website is sacuspirit.org and go to the Sponsor a Child page.

6.  How can I help my Sponsored Child’s family?

Funds can be sent through our Treasurer at bwestfall@sacuganda.org  who will forward it with your suggestion on how it is to be spent. Any donations for food, clothing & items do not qualify as educational tuition and are not tax-deductible.

7.  Can I support a special project?

Most certainly, at times throughout the school year, special projects take place. A campaign is created and will be communicated with all.

8. How does my $450 help support the children in the shelter?

The cost of operating the shelter for 30 children and providing special meals at Christmas & Easter is about $23,000. Fundraising throughout the year, supplemented with generous non-deductible donations, is hoped for to fund the cost of the shelters.  We will gladly receive gifts toward the Shelter and Nutrition fund at any time.

9. My employer has a matching gift program. Can I donate to SACU through my employer?

Currently, SACU is a registered Charity in the BENEVITY giving program.  If your employer subscribes to Benevity, you should be able to find SACU on the list of available charities to sponsor.

10. What makes up the budget for 2022?

SACU’s budget for 2022 is $141,000 Cdn.  The expected $450 Sponsorships per student will provide $93,000. With the supplemental donations that we hope to receive in the amount of $16,200, our financial needs for the Education Fund will be met for the year.  It is our goal to raise over $32,000 for Non-profit needs through fund-raising activity.                                    Link to the Financial Page.

11. Will I be updated on my child’s progress?

Throughout the year progress reports are gathered from the Secondary Schools and yearly from other Post Primary Schools which will be available for Sponsors. Annual Reports are created by Ivan and these will be posted on our website. Reports will be sent to Sponsors once they are recorded & reviewed at the Committee level.

12. How do I send letters or packages to my sponsored child?

We encourage Sponsors to send a letter and a family picture to their child. A package for your child should be small with a noted value of no more than $30 to avoid a tax being paid upon receipt at the post office in Uganda. Trinkets such as colouring books, markers, clothes or small toys are suggested.  Link to the Gifting Information
